Introduction
At Writify, we believe in transparency and respect for your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, who we share it with, and how you can control it. By using Writify, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
-
1. Documents and Content (Stored in Your iCloud)
Your documents, projects, folders, AI conversation history, AI actions, character profiles (including photos), and all writing content are stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple’s iCloud Drive. This data syncs across your Apple devices through Apple’s infrastructure.
We do not have access to your iCloud content. Apple encrypts your data both in transit and at rest. You can manage or delete this data through your Apple ID settings at any time.
-
2. Analytics Data (Sent to Google Firebase Analytics)
When you enable analytics (you are asked on first launch and can change this at any time in Settings), we collect usage data through Google Firebase Analytics (provided by Google LLC) to understand how the app is used and improve the experience.
What is collected:
- App usage events: Which features you use (e.g., creating documents, using AI actions, exporting files), along with metadata such as the source of the action and general category
- AI interaction data: AI action titles, action categories, whether context documents were attached, response times, and — if you reject an AI result and provide written feedback — up to 100 characters of your feedback text
- Document metadata: File format and size when importing; word count when deleting; document titles (first 50 characters) when importing
- Purchase events: Product identifiers, subscription period, pricing, and success/failure status
- Device information: Device type (iPhone/iPad), iOS version, app version
- User properties: Subscription tier (free/pro), project count, document count, device type, and primary language
What is NOT collected by analytics:
The actual content of your documents, AI conversation messages, or photos.
Who receives this data:
Google LLC, under the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google processes this data on our behalf and does not use it for its own advertising purposes.
Your control:
You can disable analytics at any time in Writify Settings. When disabled, no further analytics events are sent to Firebase.
-
3. Crash Reports and Diagnostics (Sent to Sentry)
We use Sentry (provided by Functional Software, Inc.) to detect and fix crashes, errors, and performance issues.
What is collected:
- Crash reports: Stack traces, error messages, and app state at the time of a crash
- Performance data: App startup time, screen load times, and transaction traces
- Diagnostic breadcrumbs: A trail of recent app events leading up to an error, including AI action titles, document save sizes, project/folder counts, iCloud Drive operation status, and purchase attempts
- Log messages: Diagnostic log entries that may include feature names, file paths, and operational status. These do not include your document content
- Session metadata: App version, iCloud Drive availability, project count, and subscription status
Who receives this data:
Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry), under the Sentry Privacy Policy (https://sentry.io/privacy/). Sentry processes this data on our behalf to provide error tracking and performance monitoring services.
Your control:
Crash reporting is active by default to ensure app stability. Sentry does not collect your document content or personal messages.
-
4. Feature Flags (Sent to Statsig)
We use Statsig (provided by Statsig, Inc.) to gradually roll out new features and run experiments.
What is collected:
- Pseudonymous user identifier: A randomly generated ID (not linked to your Apple ID or personal identity) stored locally on your device
- Device context: Device type (iPhone/iPad), platform (iOS), and environment (production/TestFlight)
- Feature flag evaluations: Which features are enabled or disabled for your device
What is NOT collected:
No document content, no personal information, no Apple ID data.
Who receives this data:
Statsig, Inc., under the Statsig Privacy Policy (https://statsig.com/privacy). Statsig processes this data on our behalf to deliver feature configurations.
-
5. Apple Services (On-Device and Apple Infrastructure)
Apple Intelligence (On-Device AI):
When you use AI writing features, your document text is processed by Apple’s FoundationModels framework entirely on your device. Your content is never sent to Apple’s servers or any third party through this feature. This is Apple Intelligence’s core privacy guarantee.
Image Playground (On-Device):
Wallpaper generation using Image Playground processes prompts and photos entirely on your device.
App Store / StoreKit:
Subscription purchases are processed through Apple’s App Store. Apple receives standard transaction data (product identifier, payment details) under Apple’s own privacy policy.
iCloud Drive:
Document sync uses Apple’s iCloud infrastructure as described in Section 1 above.
